How to start

This is a networked application operating in client/server mode. To start up a lobby to host your tables, please launch the lobby.bat inside the PokerNetwork folder. Once launched, you may minimize the window.

When you have a lobby server started, you may join the lobby by launching the lobby client. This is plobby.exe located in your installation directory. Once run it will prompt you to enter a lobby server IP address and a player name. The lobby client will show you the current tables available, let you create new tables and launch the game. It also features a choice of player model, and a simple chat.

Let one of the players in the lobby create a table, set number of bots (computer players) in that table. Then other people may join the table (and the one creating it should too). Remember that the server handles more than 6 players (including bots) but the current 3d poker client does not.

Finally, to launch a table press Start table. This will launch every players client (as well as a poker server for the particular table on the lobby server computer and bot clients).

Controls

Almost all actions are done using the mouse. You look around by moving the mouse. When it is your turn to act, possible options are presented with big text to the right on your screen. You perform the highlighted one by clicking on the right mouse button.

If you want to raise you just click with left button on the amount of chips in your stack. Remember that the smallest bet is the size of the big blind.

To call you just match the amount of chips needed to call. You might have to exchange chips of some values from your bet stack.

The default highlighted action is fold.

There is a built in chat mode. Just hit enter key and type your message. Send it by pressing enter again. Chat messages are shown in the top-left corner of the screen.

There is one last thing you can do and that is to show your cards. Press P at any time to show your cards.

Rules in Texas Hold'em

  1. Each player is dealt two cards face down. These are the only cards each player will receive individually, and they will not be revealed until showdown. A "pre-flop" betting round then occurs, starting with the player to the left of the big blind (or the player to the left of dealer, if no blinds are used).
  2. The dealer deals a burn card, followed by three face-up Community cards in the center of the table, known as the Flop. A second betting round takes place. (This and all subsequent betting rounds will begin with the player to the dealer's left.
  3. The dealer scraps another burn card, and then deals a single community card face-up, known as the Turn. A third betting round takes place.
  4. After a final burn card, another face-up community card is dealt, known as the River. The fourth betting round takes place, followed by the Showdown if necessary.

At the showdown, each player plays the best five-card hand he can make from his two downcards and the five community cards (also known as the board). A player may use both of his downcards, only one, or none at all to form his final five-card hand. If the best five-card hand he can make is to play the five community cards, then he is said to be playing the board, and is entitled to split the pot with others playing the board if no one can play a better hand. Kickers often are needed to break ties, but one must be careful not to break the only-five-cards rule from Poker hand. Straights often split the pot, and multiple flushes may occur where the ranks of the cards in each flush must be counted carefully to determine a winner.

Network information

The server uses port 8000 for lobby connection and 8001 and on for each table. The current implementation of the bots are as clients to the poker server. Thus you must allow the poker bots (pbot.exe) to access the server. The psv.exe is the server for both lobby and poker table. FPP.exe is the 3d client. For smooth play, please adjust your firewall to allow these applications before play.
